Hollywood royalty often descends on Wimbledon, and Steve Carell had the perfect description for Carlos Alcaraz at the competition in 2024.
Actor and WWE legend John Cena was at Wimbledon this year, along with the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, David Beckham, and Andrew Garfield.
The iconic tennis tournament is often the hottest ticket in town, and last year The Office star Steve Carell watched on as Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner.
The star was interviewed about the Spaniard and perfectly explained why he’s become one of the most popular stars in the sport.

Steve Carell loved ‘child-like’ Carlos Alcaraz after Wimbledon win
Carell, an avid tennis fan, was interviewed by the official Wimbledon social channels about his love for the sport.
Conversation quickly turned toward Alcaraz, who went on to win the entire competition for a second time in a row in 2024.
The Anchorman star gushed over the young Spaniard and pinpointed exactly why fans love the star so much.
“The thing I like specifically about Alcaraz is that even when he loses a great point he seems like he enjoyed it,” said Carell.
The Hollywood actor continued: “He seems like a kid as he plays, you can feel the child-like nature of the play with him.
Alcaraz’s inability to give up on points and his constant beaming smile on the court have warmed him to the Despicable Me star.
“Like after some crazy rally, win or lose, he appreciates it, and smiles, and you can tell he is just enjoying every moment of it,” gushed Carell.
“He’s such a good sport, I think, because he can’t believe some of the shots that other people pull off as well, and he appreciates them, which I love about him.”
Alcaraz has continued his fine form on grass since winning the plaudits of Carell, picking up the Queen’s trophy and reaching the fourth round of Wimbledon.
Stark Wimbledon statistics should be a worry for Carlos Alcaraz
It’s not been a vintage year yet at Wimbledon for Alcaraz as he looks to win his third SW19 tournament on the bounce.
The 2024 event saw Alcaraz drop just five sets in the entirety of the tournament as he played the likes of Danil Medvedev, Novak Djokovic, and Frances Tiafoe on his way to Wimbledon glory.
This year, the star has already dropped four sets in his first four matches at the tournament and he has only one straight sets victory to his name.
The Spaniard survived a five-set scare against Fabio Fognini in the first round and also dropped sets to Andrey Rublev and Jan-Lennard Struff.
At this stage of the tournament in 2024, Alcaraz had dropped just three sets so it’s clear there’s been a drop in quality from the Spaniard.
