Jannik Sinner failed to match an incredible Roger Federer record thanks to his loss to Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 US Open.
Sinner and Alcaraz were in supreme form at the US Open and their second Grand Slam final of 2025 didn’t disappoint.
The World No. 1 was on the line for Sinner and Alcaraz and the Italian lost his spot for the first time in over 60 weeks.
That wasn’t the only blow for Sinner, as he also failed to emulate an incredible Roger Federer record dating back to 2008.

Jannik Sinner fails to win back-to-back US Opens against Carlos Alcaraz
Alcaraz was in supreme form against Sinner from the off, breaking the former World No. 1 in his very first game.
The Spaniard was pegged back in the second set, but he bounced back to pick up his second US Open trophy.
Alcaraz stopped his great rival from securing back-to-back US Open titles in the men’s draw for the first time since 2008.
Aryna Sabalenka achieved the US Open feat in the women’s draw, but it has not been done since Federer in 2008 on the men’s side.
To rub salt into the wounds, Sinner also lost his World No. 1 status to Alcaraz as a result of his US Open final loss.
The celebrities were out in force for the 2025 US Open final
Some of the biggest stars of Hollywood, music, and sport flocked to Flushing Meadows to see the two greats in action.
The likes of Donald Trump, Bruce Springsteen, and Steph Curry watched on as Alcaraz picked up the sixth Grand Slam of his career.
For the first set, the celebrities were largely the only fans in attendance as ‘normal’ punters struggled to get into the arena.
The heightened security, thanks to the president’s attendance, meant there was a huge backlog of fans waiting to get in.
