Jannik Sinner came out on top at Wimbledon, but one surprising stat pits him behind Carlos Alcaraz and a player ranked outside the top 50.

Sinner won £3m by beating Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final as he supremely swept aside the Spaniard in four sets.

Sinner got revenge on Alcaraz for Roland Garros as the World No. 1 captured his very first Wimbledon title.

However, in one stat at the tournament he was way below Alcaraz and even fell behind a player who failed to make it past the fourth round.

Jannik Sinner hit fewer Wimbledon winners than Carlos Alcaraz and Nicolas Jarry

Sinner’s name may be on the trophy, but surprisingly the Italian did not lead the way for winners across the two week tournament.

In fact, the World No. 1 was fifth with 240 Wimbledon winners according to OptaAce and he was placed behind some surprising names.

It’s no surprise that Alcaraz topped the list as he made it to the final and played more sets than the Italian, but Sinner was topped by World No. 96 Nicolas Jarry.

Jarry dropped out of the tournament at the fourth round after losing to Britain’s Cameron Norrie in a cracking five-set classic.

That means Sinner played three more matches at Wimbledon than the Chilean star, but still managed to hit 17 fewer winners than the 29-year-old.

Novak Djokovic and Taylor Fritz, who both made the semi-finals, also hit more winners than Sinner with 260 and 272, respectively.

Jannik Sinner joins the ‘Big Four’ with impressive Wimbledon win

That strange statistic aside, Wimbledon proved to be an incredible fortnight for Sinner, who further cemented his position as the World No. 1.

Sinner is far and away the World No. 1, with more than 3000 points splitting the World No. 1 and Alcaraz at World No. 2.

Sinner’s incredible performance over the last 18 months has won him an extraordinary accolade that has seen him join Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Djokovic, and Andy Murray.

Sinner becomes just the fifth player to gain 12,000 ranking points as the World No. 1 on the ATP Tour.
