Joao Fonseca is widely considered one of the biggest rising stars on the ATP Tour, and he’s just outshone Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon.
18-year-old Fonseca defeated Jenson Brooksby in the second round to set up a clash with Nicolas Jarry in the third round.
It’s the teenager’s second consecutive Grand Slam third round after the star reached the same stage at Roland Garros in May.
The star’s third-round appearance at Wimbledon has earned him a record that not even World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz achieved at SW19.

Joao Fonseca becomes youngest star in Wimbledon third round since 2011
Fonseca’s appearance in the third round of Wimbledon means he’s the youngest player to reach the stage for 14 years.
Bernard Tomic was the last 18-year-old to make it to that stage of the competition in 2011, in a run that saw him reach the quarterfinals.
Alcaraz has his eyes on plenty of Wimbledon records in 2025, but he did not manage to reach the third round at 18.
That age marked Alcaraz’s debut appearance at Wimbledon, and he only reached the second-round stage.
The Spaniard fell in three sets to Danil Medvedev after beating Yasutaka Uchiyama in his debut performance in the men’s draw.
Fonseca also reached the second round of the Australian Open in 2025, with the Brazilian shocking number 9 seed Andrey Rublev in the opening round.
The 18-year-old currently sits at World No. 54 in the rankings, but his run at Wimbledon should see him crack the top 50.
Who are the youngest men’s stars at Wimbledon 2025?
Four out of five of the youngest stars in the men’s draws are still teenagers, but they’ve had mixed results in the competition.
Britain’s Henry Searle, the second youngest star in the main draw, lost out to America’s Ethan Quinn in the first round in four sets.
| Youngest men’s stars at Wimbledon 2025 | Age | Stage |
| Joao Fonseca | 18 years and 10 months | Third round (yet to be played) |
| Henry Searle | 19 years and three months | First round |
| Learner Tien | 19 years and six months | Second round |
| Jakub Mensik | 19 years and nine months | Second round (yet to be played) |
| Nishesh Basavareddy | 20 years and one month |
Another American, Learner Tien, won his first-round match against the fifth youngest player in the competition, Nishesh Basavareddy, but missed out on the chance of playing Fonseca in the third round after he lost to Jarry.
Czech player Jakub Mensik is still in the competition with his second-round match against Marcos Giron yet to play.
