Novak Djokovic is one of the sport’s greatest players of all time, but he rarely goes without controversy.

The star has broken most of the big tennis records of the Open Era, although Djokovic did just lose an accolade to Jannik Sinner.

Djokovic has often struggled to endear himself to fans, and his on-court antics have often landed him in hot water.

At Wimbledon in 2023, the star was fined an eye-watering sum during a five-set final against Carlos Alcaraz.

Novak Djokovic was fined £6,117 for smashing Wimbledon net post

Djokovic smashed his tennis racket against the net post during his 2023 Wimbledon final against Alcaraz.

The moment came after the Spaniard broke the Serbian in the fifth and final set, which meant Alcaraz took the ascendancy.

Djokovic was given a code violation during the match, but that wasn’t where the punishment ended for the 24-time Grand Slam winner.

The Serbian was fined £6,117 by the All England Club, which was deducted from his £1.175m runner-up cheque.

To rub salt into the wounds for Djokovic, he would go on to lose the match in a five-set epic to Alcaraz after four hours and 42 minutes.

Who else has been fined at Wimbledon?

Controversial former Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios has been handed several fines from the All England Club.

The star once received $14,500 for spitting in the direction of a fan during his first-round match with Britain’s Paul Jubb.

Elsewhere, Italian bad boy Fabio Fognini received a $3,000 fine during his match against American Tennys Sandgren.

The Italian said: “I wish a bomb would explode on this club” during a particularly unhappy moment on court.

Other high-profile names to receive fines are Serena Williams for court damage and Victor Hanescu for unsportsmanlike conduct.
