Novak Djokovic has won Wimbledon so often that he’s been able to produce a tradition that has baffled tennis fans.
The Serbian is a legendary figure at Wimbledon, winning the competition seven times in 11 years between 2011 and 2022.
Djokovic has not won the tournament for three years, last year losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final.
Much has been made about Djokovic’s diet change affecting his tennis, but the Serbian took it to extreme lengths after winning Wimbledon.
The 38-year-old eats the grass when he wins the competition, and he’s finally revealed the reason as to why.

Novak Djokovic eats Wimbledon grass because of childhood dream
Like many players on the ATP Tour, Djokovic dreamed of winning Wimbledon as a tennis obsessed child back in Serbia.
As a result, the star wanted to mark his iconic Wimbledon wins with a strange act that represents his childhood self.
“I wanted to do something different,” said Djokovic when explaining the most Googled things about himself.
“I didn’t come up with a more original idea,” continued the 24-time Grand Slam Champion, “So I thought I might as well eat some grass!”
Djokovic heads into Wimbledon 2025 as an outside favourite behind Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, with many pundits believing this could be the Serbian’s last chance at Grand Slam glory.
Can Novak Djokovic win Wimbledon 2025?
Djokovic picks and chooses which tennis tournaments he plays as he’s reaching the twilight of his career, and it’s clear he’s desperate to make a splash at Wimbledon.
The star is unlikely to compete in the competition again and will give the tournament a huge go as he looks to secure his 25th Grand Slam.
Former British tennis pro John Lloyd has suggested the star could be incredibly dangerous on the grass court.
“I think he has got a good shot,” said Lloyd on the BBC’s coverage of Queen’s. “I think he is going to be very dangerous over five sets. If his draw is okay, I think he is going to be very dangerous.”
Djokovic has made the final of the last two Wimbledon events, losing both times in the final to Alcaraz.
