Carlos Alcaraz became the latest top ATP Tour star to drop out of the Canadian Open in Montreal.

Sinner, Djokovic, and Alcaraz withdrew from the Canadian Open, causing fans to demand a change to the ATP Tour schedule.

There’s been much talk about Sinner and Alcaraz’s race to the World No. 1 spot before the ATP Tour Finals at the end of the year.

This is how Alcaraz’s latest withdrawal affects the competition between Sinner and the Spaniard.

Carlos Alcaraz will not lose any points after Canadian Open withdrawal

The Spaniard would have had an excellent opportunity to pile on the pressure on World No. 1 Sinner, but his omission provides the next best thing for Alcaraz.

The World No. 2 did not play the competition last year, meaning he would not have been defending any points at the hard court competition.

While that did mean he had a free hit as closing the 3000+ point gap on Sinner, the Spaniard will still gain on the Italian without playing.

Sinner reached the quarterfinals of the competition in 2024, meaning he’s defending 400 ATP Tour points without playing.

Due to his withdrawal, Sinner will lose all of those points and inadvertently cut the gap to 3,030 points heading into the Cincinnati Open.

Who else has withdrawn from the 2025 Canadian Open?

Djokovic, Sinner, and Alcaraz are not the only tennis stars to withdraw from Canadian ATP 1000 event.

British No. 1 Jack Draper is the only other seed to drop out of the competition, but there’s other stars who have confirmed they will not be playing.

Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Korda, and Jordan Thompson are also out of the tournament due to a variety of injuries.

They will be replaced by Sebastian Ofner, Vít Kopřiva, Christopher O’Connell, and Aleksandar Kovacevic.
