CM Punk suffered the humiliation of a short World Championship title reign at SummerSlam, but he’s still only seventh on the all-time list.
Seth Rollins screwed CM Punk at SummerSlam with a shocking Money in the Bank briefcase cash in after the main event.
It came after Punk had defeated Gunther in a WWE epic and it left fans devastated for the Best in the World.
Punk’s five-minute and 10-second title reign is shorter than Drew McIntyre’s from WrestleMania 40, but there are still six names with shorter reigns.

The shortest World Title reigns in WWE history, including John Cena and Seth Rollins
There are some high-profile names that have suffered the embarrassment of a short title reign, with many coming from Money in the Bank cash-ins.
Daniel Bryan suffered the same fate at SummerSlam in 2013, as Randy Orton broke fans’ hearts by taking his WWE Championship away after just over four minutes.
Even John Cena knows what his old rival Punk is going through.
In 2010, the 17-time champion defeated Orton, Triple H, Sheamus, Ted DiBiase and Kofi Kingston inside the Elimination Chamber, only for Vince McMahon to bring out Batista to challenge Cena.
The Animal made light work of the 17-time champion and ended his WWE Championship reign after just over three and a half minutes.
| Shortest World Title Reign in WWE History | Length |
| Drew McIntyre (2024) | 5 minutes and 46 seconds |
| CM Punk (2025) | 5 minutes and 10 seconds |
| Daniel Bryan (2023) | 4 minutes and 7 seconds |
| John Cena (2010) | 3 minutes and 33 seconds |
| Yokozuna (1993) | 2 minutes and 6 seconds |
| Seth Rollins (2016) | 2 minutes |
| Andre the Giant (1988) | 1 minute and 48 seconds |
| The Big Show (2011) | 45 seconds |
Rollins, the perpetrator for Punk’s downfall at SummerSlam, may have been getting revenge for his exceptionally short reign.
Rollins defeated Roman Reigns at Money in the Bank 2016, only for his former Shield team mate Dean Ambrose to cash in his Money in the Bank after just two minutes.
The second shortest reign of all time actually gave the title away. Andre the Giant defeated Hulk Hogan at The Main Event in 1988, only to gift the title to Ted DiBiase for a ‘price’.
The overall ‘winner’, however, will likely never be beaten as The Big Show lost the World Heavyweight Championship to Daniel Bryan in just 45 seconds from a 2011 Money in the Bank cash-in.
CM Punk got a taste of his own medicine at WWE SummerSlam
Punk is in the unique position of knowing what a Money in the Bank cash-in is like from both sides of the spectrum.
The star has previously cashed in a Money in the Bank briefcase on two occasions, both as a babyface and a heel.
In 2008, Punk defeated Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship to help solidify himself as a top star.
A year later, Punk did to Jeff Hardy what Rollins did to him at SummerSlam, as he took away The Charismatic Enigma’s World Heavyweight Championship.
Hardy won the belt after a 20-minute ladder match with Edge, but Punk swooped in to steal all the glory.
