A lot of things went wrong for Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber 2025, but this caused lasting damage.
Rhodes infamously headed to the ring to confront his WrestleMania challenger, John Cena, but after The Rock and Travis Scott’s arrival, the 17-time world champion turned heel for the first time since 2003.
The moment was a catalyst for Cena’s title reign, and it all led back to SummerSlam Night Two on August 3rd, where the pair will collide in a Street Fight for the Undisputed WWE title.

However, Scott also got his hands on the ‘American Nightmare’, which caused a stir within the company after it caused a rumoured injury to the star.
Cody Rhodes confirms Travis Scott’s hard slap caused a nasty injury
A recent interview with Rhodes confirmed that he did in fact suffer an injury from the slap of the American rapper.
Speaking on Hot Ones, he said: “I wish I could tell you it wasn’t true. Because I wanted anyone else to have the credit for that. So, you’ve got Rock in the ring.
“You’ve got Cena in the ring. But my man Travis, who, nothing but love for, he has a big old hand. So yes, it did bust my eardrum.”
You’d expect a retaliation from the 40-year-old star, but the retribution in the form of a Cross Rhodes never came for the Texan lyricist.
Cody explained: “If anyone ever wonders why I didn’t slap him, first hit him with a Cross Rhodes, he’s gracing us with his presence. Wrestling right now, again we’re getting all these fun folks but years ago it wasn’t that easy.
“And now here he comes. I want you to come back man. Our house is your house. You know, maybe swing less but our house is your house. So yeah, no, Travis did do that, that’s a fact.”
Cody Rhodes has only competed in two Street Fights in his WWE career
Across 12 years combined in the company, the former champion has only had two Street Fights in his entire career.
His first-ever time competing in the stipulation was against Randy Orton on SmackDown back in 2011 during his ‘Undashing’ era.
Fighting around the arena in South Carolina, the pair battered each other on the outside of the ring before Orton was able to get the finish with his signature RKO.
Whilst unsuccessful in this outing, he did pick up a win in the gruelling match during his second run in the company.
He and Shinsuke Nakamura battled it out in a fierce encounter, which included the American being put through a table before coming back to beat the Japanese star with the Cross Rhodes finisher.
Now with a 1-1 record, he will look to use his limited experience against Cena, who has a bizarre SummerSlam run, but interference could play a factor once again.
With only two days to go until the Premium Live Event, the Triple Crown champion will want to get his own back on the man who has made his life miserable since the Elimination Chamber turn.
