Cody Rhodes named two dream opponents he’d love to face in 2023, and he’s yet to face either two years later.
The American Nightmare is once again WWE Champion after Rhodes defeated John Cena in the SummerSlam main event.
Rhodes looks set to face Drew McIntyre next, but he still has several names he’s yet to face in the company.
Back in 2023, Rhodes named two surprise stars on his dream list, with one very unlikely to happen now.

Before WrestleMania 39, when fans believed Rhodes would win the WWE Championship from Roman Reigns, Rhodes was asked who he wanted to face coming out of the huge show.
The American Nightmare opted for two stars he’s still yet to face in WWE, with one not even with the company anymore.
In an interview with The AJ Awesome Show, Rhodes opted for Johnny Gargano because “He’s a wrestler’s wrestler.”
“He’s something that we’ve never had that singles (match), and I’d love to have that with him, just to see where I’m at, see where he’s at,” added Rhodes.
The other star Rhodes chose was Edge, who is no longer with WWE after jumping ship to AEW in 2023. “He could do this forever if he wanted to,” said Rhodes.
Rhodes and Gargano teamed together on an independent show in 2016, while Edge and Rhodes have only collided on WWE house shows.

Rhodes’ list of WWE dream matches could diminish even further as the American Nightmare has confirmed he’s thinking about moving to a part-time schedule.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Rhodes revealed: “There are some projects that are not wrestling projects on my plate that are coming up that I’m very excited about.”
“I’ve never been excited about anything outside of pro-wrestling from a professional standpoint, and now I am,” before adding: “So… maybe?”
Rhodes is set to film the new Street Fighter video game adaptation in September, alongside fellow WWE star Reigns.
