Brock Lesnar made his shocking return to WWE at SummerSlam, almost two years to the day from his last appearance.
Lesnar attacked Cena at the end of SummerSlam to announce his WWE return, and seemingly set up a match on the 17-time champion’s retirement tour.
Cena and Lesnar have not locked up since a triple-threat with Seth Rollins at the 2015 Royal Rumble, which was won by the former UFC star.
The Beast Incarnate is one of the most dominant and intimidating stars in WWE history, and one current performer said they were terrified of Lesnar less than a year before his return.

Paul Heyman admitted a ‘fear’ of Brock Lesnar in 2024
Lesnar’s former advocate, Paul Heyman, was asked about the star returning to WWE ahead of last year’s Survivor Series.
Heyman played down reports about The Beast’s return and also revealed how frightened he is of the 10-time World Champion.
Speaking on SHAK Wrestling, the WWE Hall of Famer confirmed he had a “healthy dose of absolute fear of the man.”
Heyman served as Lesnar’s manager during his first and second run with WWE, and eventually ended his time with The Beast to serve as Roman Reigns’ ‘Wiseman’.
Lesnar appeared sporadically without Heyman, facing the likes of Bobby Lashley, Cody Rhodes, and Omos between 2021 and 2023.
Brock Lesnar could be lined up for several WWE dream matches after John Cena
Lesnar’s arrival at SummerSlam was certainly a shock and it seems a terrible booking decision from WWE and Triple H.
Cena and Lesnar have battled several times throughout the year, and their 2025 match is not likely to touch their previous matches.
Nevertheless, there are several new names Lesnar could face that would be genuinely exciting from an in-ring perspective.
Gunther would be a certified dream match, while the likes of Bron Breakker and Jacob Fatu would be incredibly exciting spectacles.
