Jannik Sinner was fearful he might have lost something valuable from the US Open fan who tried to steal from him.

A US Open fan rifled through Sinner’s bag after the World No. 1’s convincing victory against Alexander Bublik in the fourth round.

Sinner didn’t let the moment play on his mind, however, as he followed it up with a straight sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti to set up a semi-final meeting with Felix Auger Aliassime.

The Italian reacted to the attempted theft and revealed the two things he was fearful of losing from his bag.

Jannik Sinner was scared he’d lose phone and wallet to US Open fan

Sinner remained his trademark level-headed self after the US Open fan overstepped the mark, but he did reveal the things he was scared of losing.

Asked about the viral moment of a fan rifling through his bag, Sinner revealed: “I checked straight away if he took something. I don’t have only rackets there. I have my phone and my wallet.”

Despite the security breach, the World No. 1 praised the tournament officials for their handling of the situation.

I feel like security is doing a great job,” said Sinner about the staff who are looking after him at Flushing Meadows.

Sinner plays Auger Aliassime in the semi-final of the US Open on September 5, with the order of play yet to be confirmed.

Jannik Sinner makes Italian tennis history at the US Open

Sinner’s win against Musetti means the star has reached the semi-final stages of every Grand Slam tournament in 2025.

The Italian’s four straight semi-finals at the Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open means he’s set a record for his country.

Sinner has become the first Italian in the Open Era to reach the semi-finals of all the Grand Slams in a single season.

The star is also the first player born since 1990 to achieve the feat, doing so before his great rival Carlos Alcaraz.
