CM Punk had his World Heavyweight Championship stolen from him by Seth Rollins at SummerSlam, but some fans believe he deserved it due to his past actions.

Rollins cashed in Money in the Bank to defeat Punk, meaning the Best in the World’s reign lasted just four minutes.

There’s been mixed emotions for Punk’s fate at SummerSlam, with some of his biggest rivals gloating about his demise.

Some fans, too, have taken to social media to share the real reason why Punk deserved what he got from Rollins.

Fans think CM Punk deserved WWE SummerSlam moment because of 2009 cash in

At Extreme Rules in 2009, Jeff Hardy won the World Heavyweight Championship against Edge in a ladder match.

However, his title reign only lasted five minutes as Punk cashed in his Money in the Bank to win his first World Championship in WWE.

WWE legend Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy’s brother, was quick to point out the karma involved when it came to Rollins’ cash in on Punk.

“Yo Rollins, Thank you for avenging my brother Jeff Hardy tonight at SummerSlam,” the tag team legend wrote on X.

Fans were quick to chime in with their thoughts about the infamous 2009 moment, too. Karma has come for CM Punk,” said one fan on X.

Another said: “I was 12 years old watching my favourite wrestler Jeff Hardy win the World Heavyweight championship, only for CM Punk to cash in Money in the Bank. This moment was rather therapeutic!”

This was not the first time Punk was on the receiving end of a Money in the Bank cash-in. In 2011, Alberto Del Rio defeated Punk for his WWE Championship at SummerSlam after a cash-in.

Jeff Hardy wants to retire CM Punk from WWE

Hardy’s 2009 loss at Extreme Rules to Punk is clearly ingrained on his mind as he made a bold claim about the Best in the World in an interview with Tim Hann Rivera.

Asked what he’d like to do if he ever returned to WWE, Hardy said he wants to finish Punk’s wrestling career.

“So it’d really be special to have a killer match, maybe make CM Punk retire, and then, go into the Hall of Fame,” said Hardy.

Hardy and Punk had a legendary WWE feud in 2009, but they haven’t wrestled since a ‘Loser Leaves WWE’ match inside a Steel Cage on SmackDown the very same year.
