The fast-changing nature of WWE makes most predictions futile and the company came up short when they predicted what John Cena and Roman Reigns would be doing five years from now in 2014.
From Brock Lesnar’s shocking WWE return, to Seth Rollins feigning injury to screw CM Punk, professional wrestling is incredibly hard to predict.
That doesn’t stop fans and pundits from trying, however, and WWE.com tried to predict the next five years of WWE in 2014.
Hilariously, the company was miles off the mark with their predictions on Reigns and Cena.
WWE predicted John Cena would be a general manager in 2019
WWE.com predicted that Cena would be a ‘part-time’ superstar by 2019 and that he would also be WWE Raw general manager.
While the company was half right, as Cena did move to a part-time schedule in 2017, the star has never, and probably will never, be the Raw GM.
Six years later, Cena is still wrestling as part of his WWE retirement tour, which will see him hang up his boots at the end of 2025.
Cena has promised never to return to the company in an active capacity after 2025, and his hectic Hollywood schedule largely rules out a run as the General Manager.
While the predictions article took five years to prove wrong for Cena, Reigns’ became incorrect after just a few months.
WWE predicted a Roman Reigns WrestleMania streak in 2014
In 2014, Reigns was on his way to becoming the superstar we see today as he was groomed to become the next Cena.
In the same article, WWE.com predicted the star would follow in the footsteps of The Undertaker with a WrestleMania streak of his own,
However, just six months later, Reigns had lost his first WrestleMania main event in one of the most shocking finishes in the event’s history.
Reigns took on Lesnar for the WWE Championship in the WrestleMania 31 main event, but it was hijacked by Rollins who cashed in his Money in the Bank.
Rollins left the show with the win and the WWE Championship, in what became known as the ‘Heist of the Century’.
