Lewis Hamilton admitted he thinks about something every day, and he thinks he will shed tears about it over the summer break.

The seven-time world champion moved from Mercedes to Ferrari in one of the biggest driver moves in F1 history, but his first season in Maranello hasn’t gone to plan thus far. He is without a podium for his new team and sits sixth in the Drivers’ Championship.

In the build-up to the Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted that he thinks about something every day, as his Ferrari performances weigh heavily on him.

Lewis Hamilton admits ‘there may be some tears’ over the summer break after his start with Ferrari

In his first season with Ferrari, Hamilton has lost a number of streaks. He finished off the podium at Silverstone, a track he’s had so much success at, snapping a streak of 11 straight races, and he finished outside the top four at Spa for the first time after a poor qualifying

Hamilton said the Ferrari is difficult to drive. He is now experiencing his longest ever streak without a podium in F1. When asked about this, Hamilton said he thinks about it every day. He went on to say this season has weighed heavily on him, and he needs to recharge over the summer break.

Hamilton explained, “The last, god knows how many seasons, have been hard in their own way. This one has been the most intense one from a work perspective, integrating into a new culture and a new team.

“It’s not gone smoothly in all areas, and it’s been a real battle. I definitely need to recharge, get away, be around the kids, laugh. I’m sure there will be some tears at some point, and I think that’s really healthy.”

Hamilton gears up for the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he holds the record for the most race wins at the circuit. Being on familiar territory, after his incredible race at Spa in the wet, he’ll hope to recapture the form that made him one of F1’s all-time greats.

Ferrari has “every ingredient” to win a championship, says Lewis Hamilton

After Silverstone, Hamilton has been incredibly engaged in improving Ferrari

He sent a comprehensive document to the team’s leadership outlining what needed to improve within the team, and he was outspoken about his determination not to follow in the footsteps of other world champions who had failed at Ferrari.

The Brit said he is working so hard because he sees the potential in the team. He said, “The team has every ingredient that they need to win. It’s literally just about getting everything aligned. Get things running smoothly, freely and stress-free, which we’re all trying to do.”

The 2025 championship is long gone. McLaren have run away with it. But with new regulations coming in 2026, there is a real opportunity for F1’s most successful team to jump to the top of the running order, and give Hamilton a shot at his record eighth Drivers’ title.
