The Open Championship is officially in full swing, and tempers are already flaring during Thursday’s action.
The best golfers on the planet have tackled the tricky conditions of Portrush as they battle it out for the Claret Jug at The Open.
Among them are two-time major winner Jon Rahm, who is one of the favourites to win the tournament after a succession of impressive showings at majors throughout the year.

But Rahm lost his cool on day one, berating a fan after a wayward tee shot, blaming them for whistling during his backswing. Fans were quick to react to the outburst.
Fans are annoyed with Jon Rahm after his outburst at The Open Championship
Fans were quick to share their opinions on Rahm’s flash of anger, and they were not on his side. Many fans were questioning whether it even happened, as it was not picked up on the broadcast.
One fan posted to X, “Maybe the broadcast is not picking it up or I’m deaf but Jon Rahm seems to be hearing anything and everything right now”
Another agreed, saying, “Didn’t hear a thing”.
We’ve all been there, your shot goes slicing out of bounds, or you top it off the tee box, and immediately look for someone to blame. Fans said that Rahm was guilty of this too.
One posted, “Every time he hits a bad drive he looks for someone to blame”, and another added, “Dude can’t even focus”.
It’s certainly ironic that Rahm plays on the LIV Golf Tour, which dubs itself “Golf, but louder”. LIV Golf blast music throughout their competitions, and Rahm copes just fine.
Fans caught onto the irony immediately, saying, “Jon Rahm has no problem with people yelling and music blaring during LIV tournaments, but don’t you dare whisper or walk when he’s playing on tour.”
Another made the same point, saying, “Plays every week with a DJ in his ear,he has no problem with that.”
Jon Rahm among the favourites to win The Open Championship 2025
LIV Golf star Jon Rahm is among the golfers tipped to win this year’s Open Championship at Royal Portrush. Sky Sports’ Andrew Coltart picked the Spaniard to win, and it’s clear to see why.
On LIV, he has 10 starts with finishes ranging from second to 11th. He also has two top-10 finishes at majors this year, ending up eighth at the PGA Championship and seventh at the US Open.
He has strong competition. Matt Fitzpatrick is in good form after last week’s Scottish Open and is in early contention after his first round. Rory McIlroy, who set the course record at Royal Portrush aged 16, is always a safe bet, as is world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Sky Sports pundits picked Tommy Fleetwood to win The Open, after his near-miss at the Travelers Championship. Bryson DeChambeau, despite his poor record in the UK, is another big name at the championship who will back himself to win it.
It’s a star-studded cast going for the final major of the year, so Rahm will need to keep his cool moving forward if he wants to challenge.
