An incredible statistic on Scottie Scheffler’s major performances proves that he is by far the best golfer in the world.

The world number one took home two major championships this year after Scheffler won The Open Championship at Royal Portrush and the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow. He dominated both majors, leaving the result in no doubt by the back nine on Sunday.

He’s the best player on the planet right now, but this stat shows that he may be even better than most people think.

Scottie Scheffler was nearly three times better at major championships than the next-best golfer

Scheffler was consistently brilliant across all the biggest tournaments of the year in 2025. Even though he wasn’t in it for the win at the Masters, won by Rory McIlroy, or the US Open, won by JJ Spaun, he posted a top-10 finish in each of the four majors.

Scheffler was 32 under par in all of the major championships combined in 2025. The next best was McIlroy, at 11 under par. Scheffler is almost three times better at major championships than the second-ranked golfer in the world.

4Jon Rahm-6

Ryan Lavner, speaking on the Golf Channel Podcast with Rex and Lav, reacted to these numbers, saying, “This just shows how much better Scottie Scheffler is than everybody else.”

He continued, “I’m not sure you can have a better example. And you see some of the quotes from his peers on Sunday: ‘League of his own’, ‘class of his own’, ‘he’s the bar’. This really tells the story.”

Rory McIlroy bows down to Scottie Scheffler’s greatness

The quotes Lavner is talking about are from the other competitors at Royal Portrush, who bowed down to Scheffler as the best player in the world.

Reigning Open Championship champion Xander Schauffele, who has important tournaments left in 2025, said, “He’s playing a different game right now. It’s like he’s in his own league.”

McIlroy, playing at his home tournament, said, “What Scottie did this week was incredible. He’s playing golf at a level we haven’t seen in a while.”

People have compared Scheffler to Tiger Woods after his recent performances, and only Woods has gotten his rivals to concede his greatness. His greatest rival, Phil Mickelson, said Woods is the GOAT.

It seems Scheffler’s peers have the same admiration. Now, he needs one more major, the US Open next year, to complete the career grand slam as McIlroy did at the Masters.
