Carlos Alcaraz may have just won the 2025 US Open, but he’s already made a huge career change for the rest of his year.

Alcaraz scooped $5m for defeating Sinner in arguably his most impressive performance from his already glittering career.

The new World No. 1 swept aside his Italian rival in four sets, dropping his serve on just one occasion in the US Open final.

With all four Grand Slams for the season finished, Alcaraz has made a big decision about his schedule for the rest of the year.

Carlos Alcaraz skips Davis Cup after winning the US Open

Spain are set to play Denmark in the Davis Cup on 13–14 September 2025, at the Puente Romano Tennis Club in Marbella.

The international tie will be played on clay, which would have caused a logistical nightmare for Alcaraz in the middle of a busy hard court season.

The star has decided to opt out of the international tie, per Jose Morgado, leaving the Spanish team significantly weaker.

The Spaniard will be replaced by World No. 37 Jaume Munar, who will come up against Holger Rune and Elmer Moller.

Instead, Alcaraz will stay in the United States and play the 2025 Laver Cup as Team Europe takes on the rest of the world.

Carlos Alcaraz only faced 10 break points at the US Open

Alcaraz’s 2025 US Open campaign was one of his most consistent Grand Slam tournaments to date, with the Spaniard largely looking unbeatable at Flushing Meadows.

The new World No. 1 only had his serve broken three times across his seven games at the tournament, such was his dominance in New York.

Alcaraz only faced 10 break points throughout the tournament, which is a new record at the American Grand Slam.

Pete Sampras at the US Open in 1993 and Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2006 follow after Alcaraz with 12 break points faced.
