Wimbledon 2025 gets underway on Monday, as the world’s greatest tennis players fight it out for the grand prize.
Among them are French Open winners Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff and hometown hero Jack Draper, who are among the top players in the world hoping to survive the tournament’s first round unscathed.
Meanwhile, men’s world number two Jannik Sinner and women’s world number one Aryna Sabalenka are out for revenge following their final losses at Roland Garros.

Following the first round draw, we now know their opponents. Here’s who the biggest names will be taking on in their opening matches at Wimbledon.
Men’s matches to watch
Carlos Alcaraz vs Fabio Fognini
The Roland Garros winner takes on former world number six, Italian Fabio Fognini. Fognini reached the third round last year and is well capable of an upset at age 39.
Alcaraz looks for his third straight Wimbledon title, and will need to focus on this matchup in his first match.
Jannik Sinner vs Luca Nardi
Sinner, the world number one, takes on fellow Italian Luca Nardi in his first outing at Wimbledon.
Nardi was world number 67 in March and competes at Wimbledon for the second time. Meanwhile, Sinner aims to win his first Wimbledon title and fourth major.

Women’s matches to watch
Aryna Sabalenka vs Carson Branstine
The world number one meets first-time Wimbledon entrant Carson Branstine in her first match, with the possibility of meeting last year’s quarter-finalist Lulu Sun in round two.
Sabalenka is a two-time major winner, but has not made it past the quarter-final stage at Wimbledon before.
Coco Gauff vs Dayana Yastremska
French Open winner Gauff faces a challenging first round against Dayana Yastremska. The Ukrainian was a semi-finalist in last year’s Australian Open, and is currently ranked 43rd.
Gauff aims to ride her recent success in France to her first Wimbledon title.
Britain’s Jack Draper faces a brutal draw
Men’s British number one, Jack Draper, finds himself needing to run the gauntlet on the way to a home tournament win. He could face Novak Djokovic in the quarter-final and Jannik Sinner in the semi-final. It doesn’t get much tougher than that.
That’s made tougher by his first-round opponent, world number 38 Sebastian Baez.
He lost in the semi-final of Queen’s, but Draper said Queen’s was Wimbledon practice before the tournament. He’ll need all the practice he can get for this run in.
British number one Emma Raducanu will face fellow Brit, 17-year-old Mingee Xu, in the first round. Raducanu should face little trouble with the wild card, but she would meet Sabalenka in the third round should they both win their opening two matches.
Meanwhile, number two Katie Boulter faces the mammoth test of eighth-seeded Paula Badosa in her first match of the tournament.
