CM Punk names one thing that ‘exposes the business’ more than WWE: Unreal after fan backlash

CM Punk featured prominently in Netflix’s latest professional wrestling documentary, WWE: Unreal, with the Best in the World’s run to the WrestleMania 41 main event detailed in the show.

Punk was critical of WWE: Unreal ahead of its release, as fans have also been critical about the show giving away too many secrets from the industry.

Fans believed WWE: Unreal gave away too much information about CM Punk and Seth Rollins’ real-life relationship, as well as several other key details about how the show is made.

However, Punk has hilariously revealed one thing away from the documentary that has exposed the business more.

CM Punk says Rhea Ripley and Dominik Mysterio storyline ‘exposed’ WWE

Punk and Ripley appeared on E-Man’s Movie Reviews to promote WWE: Unreal, and the talk quickly turned to Ripley’s former on-screen partner, Dominik Mysterio.

This set the Best in the World off on a tirade against the Intercontinental Champion as he complained about their unrealistic relationship.

“One time they wanted her [Rhea Ripley] to be in a relationship with Dominik Mysterio,” said Punk. “Can you believe that? Who is going to believe that?”

“‘Hey everybody, here’s a Greek goddess and she’s with this f—— nerd’,” joked Punk, who takes on Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam.

Punk compared Ripley and Mysterio’s relationship to the criticism levelled at WWE:Unreal by calling out the company’s realism.

“That exposes the business more than anything we’re going to do on Netflix,” explained Punk. “Who’s going to believe that s—?”

Punk and Mysterio have often shared potshots at each other since the star’s return at Survivor Series in 2023.

Punk’s debut match came against Mysterio at a WWE house show at Madison Square Garden on Boxing Day, 2023.

Why was CM Punk unsure about WWE: Unreal?

The worked nature of professional wrestling means that for years, stars were forced to keep up appearances even outside of the ring.

Now the curtain has slipped back a bit more, particularly with the current boom period WWE finds itself in.

Punk, an elder statesman of the WWE locker room, expressed an issue with giving away trade secrets in Unreal.

“My entire existence in my profession, professional wrestling, you’re taught and you’re brought up, and you’re old school, you protect the business,” explained Punk in an interview with Unsportsmanlike.

Nevertheless, Punk appeared prominently in the show and was a big personality in the promotion of the Netflix show.
