Triple H was in a celebratory mood on social media after re-signing AJ Lee to WWE after a decade, but fans think he sent a coded message to another departed star.
AJ Lee returned alongside CM Punk to an incredibly loud reaction in Chicago, after a week of swirling rumours.
Lee’s return did huge numbers for WWE and the expected match between her and CM Punk vs Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins at Wrestlepalooza on September 20 is much-anticipated.
Triple H took to social media to confirm Lee’s status with WWE, but fans think it was a subtle message to another star.

Fans think Triple H’s ‘come home’ message was directed to Mercedes Mone
Fans believe Triple H’s AJ Lee announcement post, captioned ‘You can always come home’, was a subtle message to AEW star Mercedes Mone.
Mone spent a decade in WWE between 2012 and 2022, but left the company after a disagreement over her creative.
She later joined AEW and has become one of the biggest stars in the company, in which she currently holds the TBS Championship.
“Triple H is definitely talking about Mercedes Mone,” said one fan, while another wrote: “Mercedes can definitely come back and be given a decent run at the top.”
Others, however, were less convinced that Mone should jump ship from AEW to WWE after an impressive run that has seen her hold nine championships across the world.
“Don’t fall for the bait Mercedes,” said one unconvinced fan on social media. “She’s on a generational run in AEW.”
Mone has wrestled for several other promotions during her time with AEW, including New Japan Pro Wrestling and Revolution Pro Wrestling.
What has Triple H said about a Mercedes Mone WWE return?
Triple H has always left the door open for Mone to return to the company where she first made her name.
“She’s an unbelievably talented young woman that can do just about anything she wants,” said The Game in an interview with Ariel Helwani.
“It just comes down to, what does she want to do now with her life, her career, whatever that is. The passion, clearly, for what we do, there is a passion for other things as well,” explained Triple H.
“It comes down to what does she want to do? It has to be right for her,” he said. “It has to be right for everybody.”
Mone, however, has often pledged her loyalty to AEW and Tony Khan since signing with the company in 2024.
