WWE stars have spent the past decade trying to convince AJ Lee to return to the company and it appears it’s finally worked.

Following Becky Lynch’s teasing about AJ Lee, the star is reportedly set for her first WWE match in a decade at Wrestlepalooza on September 20.

Lee will team with CM Punk to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a much-anticipated tag team match.

Several of Lee’s contemporaries in WWE have tried to convince the star to return, and one even gave the icon a retirement ultimatum earlier in 2025.

Naomi refused to retire until AJ Lee returned to WWE

Lee had an incredibly lasting effect on the landscape of WWE despite spending just three years on the main roster.

Several WWE stars have cited her as an influence, and one of her contemporaries said she was desperate for her return earlier in 2025.

Asked about Lee’s return to WWE in a February 2025 interview with the Wrestling Classic, Naomi revealed: “I be harassing her husband CM Punk about that all the time.”

The former Women’s World Champion implored Lee to return to the company, by stating: “Girl, you need to come on because mama’s back is hurting. I can’t retire until she comes back.”

Naomi wrestled in Lee’s last-ever WWE match, teaming with the star alongside Paige to take on Natalya and The Bella Twins.

“I’m so for real and she knows it,” explained Naomi. “It’s crazy. For her to be gone over a decade and to still be missed and to still be wanted so bad, just tells you what she did for women’s wrestling.”

Naomi is another in a long line of WWE stars absolutely desperate to face AJ Lee upon her return at Wrestlepalooza.

CM Punk sends another AJ Lee tease amid WWE return reports

Punk could not have made it any clearer than Lee is about to return to WWE, and the Best in the World has dropped another hint about his wife’s professional wrestling comeback.

The star took to his Instagram Stories to share an image from a comic, which reads: “Okay… You asked for it.”

Punk has already announced his appearance on WWE SmackDown in his hometown of Chicago on September 5, where Lee’s return is expected to be revealed.

It will mark Lee’s first appearance in WWE since an episode of Monday Night Raw on March 30, 2015.
