John Cena could have as few as four matches left on his WWE retirement tour, and several stars are lobbying to face the 17-time champion.
The Maverick challenged the star on SmackDown, setting up a match between Cena and Paul at WWE’s Clash in Paris on August 31.
That followed Lesnar attacking Cena at SummerSlam, with a match surely planned between those two stars before he retires in December 2025.
Paul and Lesnar are not the only stars who have their eyes on a match with Cena before he hangs up his boots for good, however, with two other stars calling out the 17-time champion.
Drew McIntyre wants to face babyface John Cena
Drew McIntyre is well-known as the biggest troll in WWE and he’s sent several messages to Cena in 2025, both on and off screen.
The star is more interested in facing the WWE icon now he’s become a babyface again, particularly after Cena’s epic match with Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam.
“But I would love to get in the ring with this version of Cena, the version I’ve seen against Cody, that’s the John Cena I want to fight,” said McIntyre in an interview with The Daily Mirror.
“You know, he didn’t come out on top in the end, but I’ll admit it was a hell of a match, or a hell of a performance, and that’s the John Cena I want to fight,” added McIntyre.
The Scottish Warrior concluded: “So if he’s got the stones, I want him before he retires.”
McIntyre competed against Cena in the Elimination Chamber this year, but he’s never had a singles match with the star.
Bron Breakker told John Cena to ‘grow some balls’ in February 2025
While he held the Intercontinental Championship in February 2025, Bron Breakker sent Cena a challenge for the title.
“John Cena, he’s never won the Intercontinental Championship before,” said Breakker to MuscleManMalcolm. “So, I say, come take it from me. Come take the championship from me.”
The rising star furthered his message for the 17-time champion “Grow some balls and come take the championship from me,” prodded Breakker. “Let’s go, let’s do it.”
Breakker is arguably an even bigger star now he’s joined Seth Rollins’ faction, The Vision, and he’s exactly the type of star Cena should be putting over on his retirement tour.
