Gunther has immediately reacted to retiring Goldberg at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gunther put Goldberg to sleep to end his WWE career as the Austrian retained his World Heavyweight Championship.
According to WRKD Wrestling, Goldberg isn’t the only WWE star Gunther is set to retire in 2025 with rumours swirling about a match with John Cena.
The Austrian has revealed his thoughts on why he enjoys retiring legendary stars amid reports of a match with Cena.

Gunther says Goldberg is not a ‘Mount Rushmore wrestler’ after defeating the legend
Gunther continued to rub salt into the wounds of Goldberg and his fans by suggesting the WCW icon is not as legendary as some think.
“The thing about Goldberg in general is, he’s not a Mount Rushmore wrestler of this business or anything,” explained Gunther on the Saturday Night’s Main Event recap show.
“Even back then as a kid I watched legends and knew I’d be better,” added the World Heavyweight Champion. “I proved myself right, I’m sitting here, I just retired Goldberg.”
The star brushed off suggestions Goldberg nearly caused an upset against the Austrian, after hitting him with a Spear and a Jackhammer.
“[I] Kicked out of the Jackhammer, I choked him out in the middle of the ring,” said Gunther. “I gave him the honour of being retired by one of the greatest to ever do this.”
Should Gunther face Cena in his final-ever WWE match, it will likely be at the next Saturday Night’s Main Event in December.
Gunther tipped to face The Undertaker by WWE Hall of Famer
In a shocking twist of events, Gunther has also been tipped to face WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker by JBL.
JBL was complimentary about The Undertaker’s current physique and believes he has one more match in him. “He looks great. I mean, he looks great, and he’s in terrific shape,” JBL explained to Something to Wrestle.
“He can, I feel like he probably could still move or move as well as he’s done for 20 years,”“I think that’d be great. I’d love to see him come back for something.”
JBL believes Gunther would be the perfect opponent for The Deadman due to his size and experience.
“Undertaker is a big guy and still looks great,” explained the Hall of Famer. “You need a guy like Gunther who can believably go toe-to-toe with him.”
The Undertaker has previously praised Gunther, calling him his favourite modern WWE star to watch currently.
