Cody Rhodes is once again WWE Champion after defeating John Cena in the main event of SummerSlam.
Rhodes toppled Cena at SummerSlam after an epic WWE main event in New Jersey that lasted over 35 minutes.
It was Cena’s third-longest match in WWE history as the American Nightmare became a two-time WWE Champion.
After defeating Cena for the first time in his career, one of Rhodes’ next high-profile matches might have already been revealed.
Seth Rollins vs Cody Rhodes is currently lined up for WWE Crown Jewel
While Cena’s next WWE opponent looks to be Brock Lesnar, Rhodes’ next challenger is currently up in the air.
However, there is one match that is currently lined up for WWE Crown Jewel in October, if the company continues the tradition they set last year.
Triple H unveiled the Crown Jewel Championship in 2024, which saw the top two champions in the company face each other.
After the events of SummerSlam, that would mean Rhodes would face Seth Rollins, his long-time rival turned friend.
Rhodes made his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 as a surprise challenger for Rollins, and followed it up with two more matches against the star.
The pair then teamed together to take on The Rock and Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 in one of the biggest tag matches in WWE history.
The year’s event takes place in Australia on October 11, just over two months away, so it’s likely to be Rollins vs Rhodes for the fourth time.
With Rollins’ latest villainous streak, the match could be another incredible chapter in their epic WWE feud.
Why Cody Rhodes’ next challenger should be Randy Orton
After Cena’s title loss, the landscape has massively changed on WWE SmackDown and there’s little to choose in terms of opponents for Rhodes.
The likes of LA Knight and Damian Priest seem a little uninspiring for Rhodes after a red-hot SummerSlam.
Drew McIntyre could be a potential opponent, but the best option at this point would be Rhodes’ former mentor, Randy Orton.
The pair have a storied history and it doesn’t appear Triple H has much stock in the storyline to save it for WrestleMania.
Orton would need to turn heel, but that would provide a much-needed shot in the arm for The Viper who has been left directionless for most of his WWE comeback.
