Golf’s third major is here, with the sport’s best set to fight out for US Open glory.

Regarded as one of golf’s toughest tournaments, the field will have to be at their very best at Oakmont.

Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy have already secured the first two majors of the year. Can they go again, or can someone else write their name into golfing history?

The Sport Review has picked out five players who could potentially lift the prestigious US Open trophy come Sunday.

Scottie Scheffler

Given how dominant he has been of late, Scottie Scheffler will no doubt be many people’s pick for Oakmont.

With three wins in his last four starts, it will be a tough task for any golfer to beat the three-time major champion.

Scheffler has been compared to Tiger Woods as of late, and the Texas native will be hoping to recreate some Tiger magic this weekend.

Joaquin Niemann

With three LIV tour wins already this season, can Joaquin Niemann replicate that form on the biggest stage?

The Chilean golfer is yet to win a major, but his stats over the past few years suggest he’s well on his way to doing so.

Expect Niemann to be within a shot come the weekend.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy missed the Memorial in preparation for Oakmont and will be looking to put his US Open demons to bed after last year’s heartbreak.

The Northern Irishman’s poor display at the Canadian Open suggests he’s not in the best form heading into the tournament, but a player of his talents is always within a shot at the title.

McIlroy has produced countless memorable moments over the years – could this weekend be another one of them?

Justin Thomas

One player who could upset the applecart is Justin Thomas.

Fresh from his play-off win at the RBC Heritage back in April, JT may fancy his chances at Oakmont.

The two-time PGA Champion has struggled in majors so far this year, but his form in the signature events suggests he could be in contention this weekend.

Bryson DeChambeau

With two US Open wins already under his belt, it’s hard to count out Bryson DeChambeau at this year’s tournament.

The reigning champion has been in the mix at both the Masters and the PGA Championship, suggesting he could be in contention yet again at Oakmont.

If there’s one man who knows how to get it done at the US Open, it’s Bryson.
