LeBron James now disagrees with what he said after winning the NBA title with the LA Lakers

LeBron James had a strong opinion after winning the NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers that he now disagrees with.

James won the 2020 title during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was his fourth NBA championship, and first with one of the NBA’s most successful franchises. The Lakers were forced to battle in the bubble, as the NBA isolated the players at Disney World for three months to conclude the season.

The legitimacy of James’ Lakers championship was questioned by Philadelphia 76ers executive Daryl Morey, sparking mass debate. But what James said about the Lakers after winning the championship should also be revisited, as reports now contradict him.

LeBron James demanded the LA Lakers front office be respected after he won the 2020 NBA championship, but now he disagrees

James and the Lakers beat the Jimmy Butler-led Miami Heat in game six of the NBA Finals. After he was named Finals MVP, James had a lot to say.

James said, “We just want our respect. Rob [Pelinka] wants his respect, Coach [Frank] Vogel wants his respect, the organisation wants its respect, Laker nation want their respect, and I want my d–n respect too.”

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer still feels like he should be respected, but does he feel the same way about the organisation and Pelinka? It’s been widely reported that James is frustrated with the Lakers due to their lack of direction after they traded for Russell Westbrook.

Pelinka and James’ relationship has soured this offseason after the Lakers made clear that they want to build around Doncic, and James is no longer in their plans. That’s a tough pill to swallow for one of the NBA’s all-time greats

He became so frustrated with Pelinka and the Lakers that James considered retirement. He’s reported to be starting the season in LA, but James’ frustrations will be a running story all the way through the season.

Rob Pelinka bolsters LA Lakers roster, but not at the expense of the future as they eye Giannis Antetokounmpo

The undercurrent of this offseason is the unhappiness of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek superstar has been weighing his options as the Milwaukee Bucks get further from championship contention.

It seems Antetokounmpo is going to be staying in Milwaukee, but he becomes a free agent in the summer of 2027. The Bucks have committed to their short-term future by signing Myles Turner, so that situation will only develop.

The Lakers said they are holding onto cap space for the summer of 2027. They have signed players to one or two year deals in order to be able to give a blank cheque to a superstar. That could well be Antetokounmpo.

But they’re not the only team in contention. The Golden State Warriors are engaged in a contract saga with Jonathan Kuminga. They’re unwilling to commit to him long-term and have offered him a two-year deal. Is it a coincidence that a two-year deal would run out when Antetokounmpo becomes available?

This offseason has been devoid of superstar movement. In two summers time, that could be entirely different.
