Goldberg brought an end to his 28-year professional wrestling career at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12.

Goldberg lost to Gunther in his final WWE match after being choked out by the World Heavyweight Champion.

Gunther revelled in retiring Goldberg, but fans were impressed with the 14-minute main event produced by the 58-year-old.

Diamond Dallas Page, who was watching on from ringside, took to social media to share an interesting insight following Goldberg’s retirement.

DDP says he convinced Goldberg to start wrestling after WWE retirement

Page, who shared a locker room with Goldberg in WCW, was impressed by the star’s final-ever wrestling match.

“I thought my man Goldberg had a hell of a match last night,” said the former WCW Champion on Instagram.

Page then claimed it was he who first tried to convince Goldberg to become a professional wrestler years before his debut.

“Considering I was the first one to try to talk him into being a wrestler 4 years before he showed up at the Power Plant, I was happy I was there for his final match,” explained Page on social media.

The two men met several times during their WCW careers, with Goldberg winning eight of their 11 meetings.

Both men have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, with Page entering in 2017 and Goldberg getting the nod a year later.

Goldberg thanked the fans in WWE retirement speech

After initially being cut off from the NBC feed, WWE have released Goldberg’s entire retirement speech after his match with Gunther.

The star sent a heartfelt message to the fans who have stuck by him during his nearly three-decade career.

“Every time I step in this ring, it’s with every one of you with me,” said Goldberg after tasting defeat to the Austrian.

“I couldn’t have done it without you,” added the WWE Hall of Famer, before adding: “Each and every one of you.”

It’s unclear what the future holds for Goldberg after he brought an end to his professional wrestling career.
