Goldberg apologised for no-selling Gunther’s chop during final WWE match
Goldberg’s final match was genuinely well-received by WWE fans as the two men produced a fun 14-minute bout.
One of the highlights for fans was Goldberg laughing off Gunther’s trademark chops, which are said to be the hardest in the industry.
This is something Goldberg has revealed he apologised to the World Heavyweight Champion for backstage.
“I laughed when he chopped me, but I didn’t know what to expect… It’s a great work punch, but I thought it was gonna hurt more, that’s all,” explained Goldberg on The Ariel Helwani Show.
“It just startled me and I didn’t mean to do that,” added the WCW icon. “I really apologize because I didn’t mean that.
The retired star continued: “That’s not a rib. I’m not trying to downplay his move, but it caught me off guard and I completely broke character.”
In the same interview, Goldberg didn’t rule out another wrestling match but did say he was retired ‘in principle’.
As for Gunther, the Austrian is reportedly being lined up for John Cena’s retirement match at the end of the year.
Goldberg was not happy with certain aspect of WWE retirement match
Goldberg also revealed to The Ariel Helwani Show several issues he had with his professional wrestling swansong.
The star was unhappy about the short build for his program with Gunther, as well as his retirement speech getting cut by the NBC feed.
“Let’s just say I’m p—– off at the way I went out,” revealed Goldberg. I put so much into it, and I don’t feel as though the effort was reciprocated to put a stamp on what I’ve accomplished.”
Goldberg’s retirement match came three years after his previous match against Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in 2022.
